MUJAHID-I-AWWAL LIBRARY

A library is the heart and soul of an educational institution. It is the store-house of books and repository of knowledge. A library, thus, provides mental food and up-to-date information to the readers. The library truly functions as ‘Learning Commons’, allowing cadets to research, create and collaborate.

The library of the Cadet College Muzaffarabad named after the former Prime Minister and President of Azad State of Jammu & Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan (Late), also known as Mujahid-i-Awwal, (the first holy warrior), who remained President of All Jammu & Kashmir Muslim Conference for over 20 years.

The proposal for naming the library as the ‘Mujahid-i-Awwal Library’ was presented to the Chairman BOG (The Prime Minister of AJ&K) by the Principal, Brigadier (R) Dr. Manzoor Ahmed Abbasi, SI (M), on 11 January, 2022, which he happily endorsed and approved.

Mujahid-i-Awwal wrote on political, mystic, spiritual and religious topics. Mujahid-i-awwal actively participated in Kashmir Freedom Struggle in 1948. His title ‘Mujahid-i-awwal’ is based on the fact that he is the person who fired the first shot in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1947 at Neela Butt. Mujahid-i-Awwal lived a simple life and was an extremely well read and practicing Muslim. He was the architect of ideology of the Azad State of Jammu & Kashmir, as he coined the slogan.

Mujahid-i-awwal library is situated in the premises of Cadet College Muzaffarabad, beside Haider Khan Auditorium. The library consists of a beautifully lit and well-ventilated spacious hall. The library has one reading room, adjoining the main hall. There are sufficient chairs and tables in the main hall. The cadets can sit and prepare their own notes and take them to houses for use. It is a well-planned library with separate sections for books on each subject. Stands for newspapers and journals are also available in the main hall. Cadets can go there in their vacant periods and refresh their knowledge on current affairs.

A Librarian and a Library Assistant are always present to help cadets to find out the books, they want to read. The library provides a very calm and disciplined atmosphere, which helps cadets to maintain a good concentration on their studies. It is surrounded by a green grassy lawn.

More than 1200 books concerning all most all walks of life, like philosophy, fine arts, religion, science, general knowledge, dictionaries and encyclopedia are available in the library. Besides these 1700 books, more than 300,000 (three hundred thousand) digital books are also available on a single click, as there is internet facility available in the library. The availability of digital books in the library is the personal effort of the Principal Cadet College, who is taking keen interest in cadets’ learning. The books are properly arranged subject-wise, which are issued to cadets on their turn. Each cadet can draw two books from the library for a fortnight.

In examination days, the library is kept opened on Sundays and other holidays. Now, the library is in the service of Muzaffarians, from 0900 hrs. to 1600 hrs. daily and opened on weekends.
